Part 1: 1&3



1. How did the Industrial Revolution and the rise of Capitalism spark interest in Africa and the imperialism of the 19th and 20th century?
There where man reason why the Industrial Revolution and the rise of Capitalism sparked imperialism in Africa. The Industrial Revolution was a time period which started in Great Britain during the 1700’s. The Industrial revolution was the rise of new machinery and the use of iron and coal. Which were Great Britain’s natural resources. In need of expanding corporations and need of new resources they decided to move to the near by country of Africa which had many various natural resources. The idea of capitalism was one of the causes for imperialism in Africa. Capitalism was when the Business and Factory owners control the economy and trade. The interest in Africa was because of its ideas of being able to control a lot of land and becoming powerful for controlling a lot of lands. The natural resources from Africa would be taken to Great Britain and manufactured for new goods to be traded.


3. Compare and Contrast the colonization of the Age of Exploration (15th and 16th century) with the imperialism of the 19th and 20th century.
The Age of Exploration was a time period in which many explores set out to find and seek new land. This caused cultural diffusion and trade to increase. Many ideas of cultures were spread along the way. Many countries in South America were imperialized by Great Britain, Spain and Portugal. Imperialism in Africa was when European Countries decided to go to Africa to expand corporations and take Africa’s natural resources like gold and silver. They had many similarities because during each time countries were imperialized by mother countries. They were controlled and spread of the mother countries culture was also increasing. One difference was that during the age of exploration the colonies fought for there freedom and in Africa they had on going conflict because of the assimilation towards Africans and the take of their natural resources.
